inspirationFor my inspiration I was really inspired by the logos of IB and MPS. I really enjoyed the simplicity that came with each of their logos and I knew from the getgo that this was something I wanted to incorporate into my design for my flag. I wanted my flag to be simple and have symbols /colors that resembled that of MPS and IB (as well as Reagan).
When I began my research of flags and what goes into making a flag I had found out that when flags are hung up, the design of the flag needs to be taken in to consideration. In simpler terms, when creating the flag, it is needed to be made sure that whatever design is wanted to be on the flag you should really think about where you want the design to be placed. If it is placed towards the end of flag, when hung the design will not be able to be seen as clearly as initially planned. Understanding that, I took it into consideration when creating the designs for my flag.I made sure that I created designs that would be closer to the middle of the flag or banner of the flag so that when it is hung, the wind will not be flapping it around and have it be difficult for individuals to see the design of the flag. |
Here are my final sketches for my flag design for Ronald Reagan . With my design, I knew I had to do some research into what all the colors I wanted to use would mean.
• Black: Often used to represent determination, ethnic heritage and/or the defeat of enemies. It can also be used as a symbol of death or mourning. • White: Seen as a symbol of peace, purity and harmony, and has also been used to represent surrender in times of battle. • Red: Stands for power, revolution, vibrancy and war (symbolic of bloodshed). Other meanings include courage and domination, while it can also be viewed as an alert of danger. • Blue: Signifies determination, liberation, alertness and good fortune. • Green: Often seen as a symbol of agricultural influence, as well as prosperity and fertility. It can also be viewed as youthfulness and hope. • Yellow (or Gold): Has long been viewed as a symbol of wealth and energy, as in the sun. It can also be used to represent happiness. • Orange: Viewed as representation of courage and sacrifice. After researching what each color on a flag typically means, I tried to incorporate that into my design. I knew I wanted to use the colors that the IB logo and MPS logo uses: white, yellow and blue. |
Once choosing the final sketch for my flag for Reagan. I immediately began my final image for my flag. I chose the first design I had presented in front of Nicole which is the one flag design she said was the strongest. The materials needed for this was:

With my flag, there were many things I had done to try and improve my design. For example, as explained before it is expected for your flag to not have pencil strokes been seen, solid colors are wanted. When doing that (meaning coloring the components of the flag with hard solid colors) initially I noticed that the colored pencil I was using, I still was able to see the strokes I did with the pencil. So to fix that I tried to go over the previous colored pencil used with another, the ones provided for us by Nicole. It did help somewhat but still pencil marks were able to be seen. Instead I tried using different techniques when it came to coloring the flag. I filled in the gaps where white could be seen in the coloring with more color, and that helped somewhat.
